On October 13, 2015 the
Toronto Zoo announced the birth
of the first giant panda cubs born in Canada.
Both Jia Panpan (Canadian Hope) and Jia Yueyue (Canadian Joy)
have been a
delight to watch as they have grown
from two very small and vulnerable cubs to
healthy and thriving youngsters
and Toronto Zoo staff have appreciated each and
every
milestone they have reached.
The challenges balanced with the number of
joyous moments
over the last 365 days have provided a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity
for us here at the Toronto Zoo,
and we are thankful to everyone who
shared it with us along the way.

Odds and Ends
Afghan Girl –Then / Now
The woman in the photo was
identified as Sharbat Gula,
whose parents were killed in the Soviet Union’s
bombing
of Afghanistan in the 80’s.
Until National Geographic found her again
17 years later,
she’d never seen the famous photo of herself.
When asked how
she survived everything that happened to her,
she said that it was “the will of
God”.
But still bound to offend someone!!

Marble Run with 100,000 tiny
marbles!
A satisfying video of an
epic marble run with a container
filled with 100,000 tiny marbles!
These
marbles are 3 mm (1/8 inch) in diameter, in comparison,
a regular marble is 16
mm (5/8 inch) in diameter.
It makes a silly, but soothing noise when these little
marbles
bounces through this marble maze made with glass sheets,
acrylic cubes,
wooden planks, some bells and more
